BIOGRAPHY

I am a visual storyteller - and my photography is guided by my interest in the world around me. I have a keen curiosityand find stories everywhere - in the green and quiet of a wooded preserve, in the passion people exhibit through their work and in their recreactions. When I set up a shot, the story behind the image is what motivates and guides me. I look for context that can surround and help define the subject in every shot I take.

I began my life as a visual storyteller early on when my father handed me his beautiful, Swiss-made Alpa 35mm camera and a couple of rolls of Tri-X.

In college, I focused those years of impression and passion on creative writing and photography.

When I graduated from Knox College, I entered the M.F.A program in filmmaking at Columbia College, Chicago. I told stories about subjects of interest to me – and my filmmaking experience culminated in the creation of Concrete Rodeo, an award-winning documentary on Chicago bike messengers. I found that filmmaking required too much technical apparatus or “stuff” - and I returned back to my roots - still photography.

For more than 15 years, I have enjoyed a career as a professional photographer. Through my photography, I have helped shape the narratives of CEOs, businesses, artists, employees, schools, teachers, students and children.

I am grateful every day to be involved in a career that lets me witness and visualize so many fascinating stories.
